South Carolina Medal of Honor Recipients

NavGridv01 01The Medal of Honor ("MOH") is the highest award for valor which can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Forces of the United States. The Museum possesses the portraits of all 34 South Carolinians who have earned this prestigious award, and includes accompanying text describing the heroic actions that merited them this most elite decoration.

In WWI, six members of the South Carolina National Guard's 118th Infantry Regiment received MOH more than any other State. Among the recipients was future Adjutant General Lt. General James C. Dozier. His MOH action in storming a machine gun nest with just a pistol and a few grenades was selected as one of the twelve most remarkable exploits of the Great War.
